A Fantastic Stay in Gerladine
We (myself, wife and two young kids) spent last Saturday night at Black on Grey Motel, and what a pleasant surprise it was. With the kids, we wanted to break our drive between Wanaka and Christchurch, and Geraldine looked to be about the right distance, although we were a bit sceptical as to what the town had to offer. We couldn’t have been more wrong, what a charming little town and a charming little motel.
The town is a small country town with an old Main Street with some lovely little shops, a cheese factory that made top notch cheese, a nice pub for dinner (the Village Inn) and a fabulous breakfast at The Running Duck.
The cabin at the motel was just great. We were warmly welcomed by the host (whose name escapes me sadly) and we had the spacious family unit. Two nice bedrooms, a lovely sitting area / kitchen and a nice little private courtyard, grassed for the kids to run around. Also loved the little touches such as the little glass bottle of milk in the fridge. It felt safe, secure, and just a two minute drive from the centre of the Main Street.
Both Geraldine and The Black on Grey are well worth the visit, we’re so glad we stopped by.
Warm modern units - would stay again
Lovely modern stand alone units equipped with everything you need. We stayed in a wheelchair accessible unit – perfect for anyone with accessibility issues. Beds are very comfortable! We would recommend and hope to stay again! Angeline is a lovely responsive host – thanks so much!
Very enjoyable visit
After a 2 week road trip around the South Island Black on Grey was a highlight. Just to be able to relax in a comfortable chair after a long day on the road is a real bonus. Easy living made perfect. Thank you Angeline the design and planing you have put into your accomodation shows through. Good luck for the future and I could well recommend black and grey, for a friendly comfortable clean stay.
